Manchu identity, Banner status, clan organization, language, and modern ethnicity overlap but are not identical. The Eight Banners included Manchu, Mongol, and Han components, while clan terminology such as hala and mukūn belongs to another layer of social organization. Good explanations keep those categories separate.
